I'm reviving my '96 396 stroker from 4 yrs of storage as you may have read in my 1st post. Once I address the fluid/gas changes, there are other aspects of the car I need to address, and this one concerns me.

The car was built about 6 yrs ago. It has a 125 shot of NOS, and I couldn't keep clutches in it. I destroyed the dual mass flywheel, so we changed to a Spec II clutch, and a Camaro flywheel.

At the time, this was what everyone here was doing...a Camaro flywheel had to have ninety thousandths machined from it's face to work. The folks who were doing this did not report trouble, but that's a lot of meat off that flywheel. I have been away from all of this so long I haven't heard of the long term effects, but have to wonder if this issue hasn't been long addressed with a better solution.

Also, at the time, no one was making a blow-proof bellhousing for the car. Does one exist now? (I commonly shifted the car at 7 grand.)

So, do I have reason for concern? Did those milled Camaro flywheels turn into hand grenades?

Hello and Help:

I have an 86 with the usual loose steering column. I searched this forum and followed the instructions about tightening 2 of the 4 bolts that usually come loose. It didn’t help and I did not feel safe driving it. So I removed the entire steering column, dissembled it and found the jacket and support, Col Hsg broken. Of course with the “Rare” Z51 Performance Handling Package I had great difficulty finding used replacement parts. I did find the correct parts after searching 40 to 50 columns. I reinserted the rebuilt column into the car and found I had the thing assembled 180o off. So I did the easy attempt and pulled the steering wheel and turned it 180o so things line up. Long walk but here is the problem, the turn signal cancellation only works if I turn all the way left or right. Then it cancels. My question is, is there an easy fix for this or do I have to completely disassemble the column to correct this issue.

Thanks
I'm hoping to just swap oil pumps and return to the stock pan. I seem to recall the windage tray is held in place by some studs on the main caps. It's been a while, so my memory is foggy about that.

Hi guys,
my name is Sebastian.and i came from Slovenia/Europe.my frient Sammy from Chile suggested to write here...so i did it..I own an 86' corvette and i wanna rebuild my transmission. So i hope you guys can help me out hehe..since i have already bought quite all pieces, but anyway i deicieded to write you a few lines...
Like i wrote Since i bought a lot of parts i wanna do it by my self so i hope you guys would help me here...
I would like to build a transmission that will hold 700HP, since i will late change my heads and rebuild also my engine but first i have to do the transmission...i red on some pages that you do some modifications on parts that will lube better..''The front sun gear is then slotted for improved lubrication, as the rear sun gear was, and installed.'' is this a secret or can someone shere this with me...
since we don't have good mechanics here to do proper work and after this the only one mechanic rebulded my transmission for 5 times and i always burned up 3-4 gear, i decided that my friend and i do this on our own..he allready rebulded his trans on his pontiac firebird and few others...and they all works great..so here we go...

i have this parts:

-sonnax super hold 2nd gear
-sonnax super hold 4nd gear
-trans go kit is this a good choice?
-alto red clutches or reybastos Z-pack which do you recomand more?
-sonnax sure cure kit is this worthed?
-Reaction Sun Gear Shell - Modified (Beast)
-700R4 / 4L60E Rear Planet , 5 Pinion
-oil cooler DERALE how big to work alone/without original cooler?
-alluminum oil pan DERALE
-13 vane pump
- new stronger pump support shaft SONNAX
-trans core MD8 year 1991( is this a good core?) or to use my original 86'' core...i can't find any K case core..i think that 88' up trans were better..what do u think?

please if you can sugest me what to put in that my trans will work good and will not burn out?..and which oil you sugest?
and i will need a new converter..which do you recomand for street and streep?

this will be for now all...i hope that i can get some information from you;)

BR, Seba:cool:

I replaced the pump and line and it was fine. Until I raced again. Now it leaks again from the same spot.
I called the guys at Turn One and they recommended a Doug Rippie high pressure braided line.

Today on the way to work I noticed as soon as I turn my engine on, one of the cooling fans kicks on and stays running.

I scanned the ECM to see if I had any codes that were throwing the car into limp home mode but all is good and clear. (No SES light was on anyway).

With the car off you can turn the key to acc mode and the fan does not kick on , only when you fire up the engine , the fan will instantly turn on.

I did have PCMForLess burn a chip for me , in that burn we lowered the fans comming on to approx 200 deg. When I first tossed it in it worked exactly as it was supposed to. Now not so much.

I am thinking maybe a stuck relay? However one would think that with a stuck relay the fan would kick on as soon as the key is switched to acc mode.

Any thoughts?

Driving home the other night I noticed the gauge on my 87 showed only11.1 volts. I got home and put the meter on the battery with the car running and only got a little over 11 volts.. The next day I took the alternator off and took it the my auto parts dealer who checked it and said it was fine. He suggested I replace the external voltage regulator. Since it was only 20.00 I bought one but can't find where it goes. The parts guy said it was on the drivers side near the headlight. It looks like it fits inside another housing but I can't find anything that looks about the same size. As a side note, after I reinstalled my alternator, it has been reading over 13.1 volts until today and once again it's showing low voltage. My Haynes manuel does not show any drawing or instructions concerning this, any suggestions?
