Nine club... The New England Corvette Club toured the Callaway facility in Old Lyme, CT on Friday. Nine club Corvettes and one guest braved the rain in the morning and enjoyed a great tour of the entire plant. We saw several Corvettes and Camaros getting the Callaway treatment. A big "thank you" to Mike Vendetto for giving us a great tour and answering a ton of questions. I'll add some photos to this post in just a few minutes. I've got to sort through over 200 photos. Better make that an hour. :)

This week I received a phone call from Disney in California telling me that I am no longer invited to the service awards dinner because of my medical leave of absence and company policy dictates that employees on medical leave cannot attend company events. I asked the representatives of the company to show me where this is written as I have a copy of the Disney company policy. They said it isn't written anywhere. This really raised my eyebrows. Why would anyone want to keep me from attending a very nice evening celebrating my years of service (more than half my life) with my colleagues at ABC?

In my latter years with ABC I switched to all news coverage for ABC News. I have traveled all over the world to accomplish my assignments. From the middle east to the far east. I have covered Presidential campaigns in 2004 and 2008. I have worked thru countless nights, Thanksgiving holidays, Given up Christmas and New year's day. I have endured Hurricanes, Freezing weather, Floods, terrorist bombings and executions. I even covered presidential functions in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria. I thought it was my turn to sit at one of those tables in the Grand Ballroom. I pose no threat to anyone. I may never get another chance to attend an awards service celebration and to be honored for my 35 years of service to ABC. For a family oriented company like Disney to rescind my invitation using the excuse of an unwritten clause in company policy is just absurd. I am hurt, confused, and very much offended by the company's actions in this matter.

You know that "Corvette" is a small French ship known for it's maneuverability.

You have a PO Box that your wife does not know about so you can get your mods in the mail.

You refer to your Vette as if it were your child.

Instead of your spouse, you carry a picture of your car in your wallet.

You hang pictures of Vettes in your GARAGE so she's not lonely.

You’ve actually had a momentary twinge of worry at night, when you turn out the light in the garage, about leaving your 'Vette alone in the dark.

You spend more time vacuuming the 20 square feet of carpet in your Vette than your 2000 square foot house.

You feel that you must scrub the underside, you never know, some mechanic may get the wrong impression of you if it's dirty.

You find yourself looking at your reflection in large plate glass as you drive by.

A bird craps on it, you stop turn around and go home to clean it off.

You drive around town to every Starbucks looking for an outside table next to a parking place because you think people are impressed by watching you drink coffee next to your Vette.

You order a build sheet for your Vette even though you have no idea what it means.

You think all Japanese cars are junk driven by young punk rice boys that want to race you.

You think there's a chance it may rain.. I'll take the Lexus...

SUVs aggravate you because they are bigger that you are…

You find it necessary to keep pressing that little button that goes between oil temp/water temp/fuel avg./ etc..

Even though you've never changed oil in any car you've ever owned, you want to do it on your Vette because nobody else knows how...

You go to the drug store to buy cotton swabs for your car instead of your ears.

You cause traffic jams as you maneuver your Vette around a puddle of water in the street.

When nobody is looking, you talk to it and swear that it understands you...

You get very depressed if you've been cruising all day and stopped many times but nobody comes up and says.. "Wow, nice Vette!"

You keep a shop manual in the bathroom for your reading enjoyment while taking a dump...

You understand that "Owning" does not necessarily mean "Driving".

You have one pair of sunglasses that are designated Vette shades. You never wear them while driving the "other car".

You spend half an afternoon and cause bodily harm to yourself trying to get that last little leaf that's stuck to your radiator through that little hole on the right side of the shroud.

Every time you talk about your Vette to ANYBODY, you say "The Vette" instead of car.

Nobody under the age of 30 is allowed in your garage.

The weatherman predicts rain and you are VISIBLY upset.

You yell "Save the wave!" to people who don't wave back.

You have an 11'X4' corvette poster on the wall above your bed.

You wave at other Corvette owners when you are out for your evening jog.

Your friends make sure they bring up your car more than you do, when you meet new people.

You tell everyone that you will drive yourself when a big group is going out even though there is plenty of room in another vehicle.

And everyone fights over who gets to ride with you.

You flip through every page of Eckler's, Mid America and Corvette Central every month even though they have the same parts every month.

You look at parts for C1s, C2s, C4s, and C5s even though your car is a C3.

"Ooo" and "Ahh" over another Vette, that for all intents and purposes could be your Vettes twin (same year, color, etc.)!

While looking to buy a house, garage space and condition is the first thing you look at.

You decline a night at the "gentlemen's" clubs with friends, because you need to be up early the next morning to get to the track.

You grit you teeth, and scowl, every time you see a Mustang on the road.

For the C6 we came up with a sound deadening system that you "drop in". So rather then rip up your carpet and take out your interior you basically drop 10 dbs in 60 seconds..

This was done because the C6 with its design and no padding/thin carpet, it resonates and really needs it.
However we get a lot of calls/emails to have something like this made for the C5.
I can't tell you how many asked us at Carlisle.

So today we made a proto and tested it. Once again it dropped the noise level down BUT, it was not that loud to begin with..
Personally I think inside the cabin is super quiet (without anything) and does not need a thing. We used a coupe, auto, with a catback aftermarket (mid American) exhaust. Good sound but the cabin was fine. No drone, no tire noise (which are both a big problem with the C6)

So am I missing something? Is there a set up that warrants a sound deadener? Is there less padding in certain years (like the C6)? If you feel you need it quiet, can you please advise what system, items you have running.

It's time for the 5th ANNUAL NYC CHRISTMAS POSTCARD TOUR.
This is a very unique corvette event for those that haven't experienced it before. It's a tour of the famous holiday sites/sights/sounds along NY's famous Avenues. It is a sight to behold with all of the corvettes along NYC's famous streets!!! The tourists go insane, and the scenery is beyond belief. BRING YOUR CAMERAS!!! You will get some amazing pics of the sites and your 'vettes!!!!!

Helping a worthy cause:
As in prior years, I am requesting that everyone who comes to the event:

PLEASE bring an unwrapped gift for a boy and/or girl (up to age 12). (If you bring more than one gift, it would be so awesome!!) You can even ask your friends/co-workers to contribute gifts also….the more gifts the merrier! The organization will be at the starting point to collect the gifts.

I will be working directly with the group that received the gifts last four years. All gifts will go to the AIDS Center of Queens County, which cares for children and families affected by HIV and AIDS.
