Verify your fuel pressure is what it supposed to be. Also make sure your base timming is 6-10 with the wire (EST?) disconected. How did the engine sound? Did it rev smoothly or rough? Also is this with stock chip and stock injectors?

Fuel press is around 40psi. Timing was set to just start the motor. Engine was smooth. Yes, stock chip and injectors.

In addition to slow timming a vaccum leak can cause that also.

VERIFY your timming with a light. A few degrees in the wrong direction and you get what you got! How confident are you that your pointer is setup correctly? You wouldn't want to hurt that beautiful Bowtie would you?
I would think your engine should give a decent idle with the stock Inj's and chip. The only reason I say this is because I've started my 383 with my stock chip before and it idled fine.
