Without a doubt the best motor ever put in a Vette had to be the 4 valve ZR1's
With all the standard hop up tricks. Bigger intake, bigger valves, bigger cams, bored and stroked to 415 ci. A guy on this forum was able to exceed 590 RWHP! That's @700+ hp at the crank. All naturally aspirated.
That wasn't enough for the owner on this previous forum member so he gave it a 200 shot and did some dyno runs which exceeded 700 RWHP. This was setup for road racing with monster brakes and wheels. Years ago one of the auto rags had a 0-150-0 mph shootout and he wanted to compete. But the time frame wasn't right for getting the car and time off 1500 miles away.
Nothing else in the Chevy Vette line up of motors has been able to put out that much power, rev to 8000 any day, and last as a semi street legal vehicle
I agree the ZR1 LT5 engine is the most elegant and technically sophisticated, and is the best engine.
But, since I'm a working guy without a trust fund to pay the bills, I say a traditional SBC with EFI port injection is the best choice for me. Next in line is the new 572 BBC!!
