OT: Help me find a bolt or cap head screw. 7.5" long, 7/16 -20 fine thread
Need the bolt that goes into the center of the front of the crank. Added a pulley for a street blower and a mandrel for the dry sump, and now the bolt isn't long enough.
I need one 7.5" long, 7/16 -20 fine thread, grade 8.
Have checked the local hardware stores and several fastener supply shops.
Anyone know where to find something like this? One guy suggested a threaded rod, and cut to length. Problem is that the old bolt is a grade 8, and I can find a threaded rod that is anywhere as strong .

I have (almost) the same bolt in my crank holding the dry sump drive. "John Deere"!! They have a fastner book and can get almost anything. CHEAP TOO.

You must have a Callies crank. Try a truck spring center bolt. That's what I used to make my damper pulling tool. They have a round head, but if you can't get a grip, you could weld a nut to it for a wrench. Good luck, and...

Here is a link to one, You can just cut it to length, 7 1/2" in that size grade 8 is tough to find.

That one above sounds like it will do the trick. If for some reason, it won't, let me know. and I'll give you the number for Callies. Even if your crank isn't Callies, they use a deeply recessed thread and a long bolt, too. When I talked to them, I got the impression they could supply long bolts. I called to ask about a bolt for mine, which needs to be the minimal length (nothing on the front of the crank, but the damper) and they told me it takes a 3.5" bolt, and acted like I should be able to find it anywhere. I haven't spent alot of time looking for one, yet, but I haven't "tripped" over one either. How long is your old bolt? Are you willing to part with it? Let me know if you want that phone number. Good luck, and...

Redvetracr: Great info, a John Deere specially modified Corvette! Wonder how that would stack up against the Callaway?
Have a John Deere dealer just a few minutes from the office so it'll be an easy stop during lunch.
CFI-EFI: If you are in the Salt Lake City area, IM me and you can have the bolt I was using. It is a gold color grade 8, six inches long, not including the head.
Allthrottle and Nobottle: Thanks for the link to the McMaster catalog, found some interesting items there.

My questions is, if you run a John Deere decal, will they pay contingency money?

Damn, wrong color. Seriously, I need a 3.5" bolt. I would make it my business to be in the Salt Lake area, if I could use it. That is a great offer, and I really appreciate it. Thanks, and...
