Accusump, who's using one? Good idea?
I am playing with the idea of installing either an Accusump system from Canton, or an Accumulator system from Moroso with my new 406.
I currently have a 7qt sump with a baffle and trap door, but would like the extra insurance should I have a pressure problem at some point.
Also, the pre-lubed startup would be useful.
Anyone here running one of these? Any pros/cons I'm not aware of?
Thanks!
Travis

I use a 3qt. accusump from Canton before I installed it I wasted 2 motors in 2 years from loss of lubrication during a Driver event at a local roadcourse. since putting it in I don't even start the car without prelube. I have the elec. soleniod control. The only down side is it does take up some room behind the seat. I swear by it now.

Thanks, I will definitely run some type of accumulator, I just haven't decided on the brand yet. Where did you mount the accumulator, and how'd you run your lines? (Oil galley, filter adapter?).
Thanks!

Yeah I picked up the Accumulator II for 5 bucks brand new at a swap meet. Problem with the II system is it's only gravity operated. Really sucks, I wonder if I could modify it to act like a type 1 system

I am using the Moroso accusump with electric solenoid. To be honest, I expected the oil to "gush" a bit more forcefully when activated. I need to test with open end of oil hose to engine to see just how much and how fast the oil is pushed out when the solenoid opens. I am wondering if the switch may be opening too slowly.

Chuck Harmon From what I can gather, Canton recommends (and sells) a faster opening electric vavle.
Here is the link and text to their (race valve):

That would probably solve the problem.
I will probably use the Canton 3 qt with manual valve at first, then get the fast electric valve later.

E.P.C. Valving (#24-271, 24-273, 24-275)
Our E.P.C. valving has the convenience of an electric valve and the rapid refill rate of a manual valve. The E.P.C. valving allows the Accusump to quickly charge with oil when the engine's oil pressure is above a predetermined level and discharge when the engine's oil pressure drops below that level.
Comes with an electric valve, regulator, toggle switch, wire, terminals, and a pipe nipple.
Part #:'s
24-271 E.P.C. valve kit for a discharge of 20-25 PSI
24-271K to refit a standard #24-270 to a #24-271
24-273 E.P.C. valve kit for a discharge of 35-40 PSI
24-273K to refit a standard #24-270 to a #24-273
24-275 E.P.C. valve kit for a discharge of 55-60 PSI
24-273K to refit a standard #24-270 to a #24-275

Re: Accusump, who's using one? Good idea? (VETDRMS)
I mounted mine behind the storage compartments in the hatch area side to side with the hose and soleniod faceing the outside, ran the hose down the drivers side, cut a hole for the hose to go thru the firewall along the outside and tapped into the oil gallery in the block right above the oil filter were the oil temp sensor was located. I moved the oil temp. to the canton pan.
Hope this helps some
