I recall that a factorycast crank will have a very thin parting line on the throws and a factory forged crank will have a wider one. The forged factory crank will hav a smoother and more finished look to the unmachined parts than a cast crank. Also a forged crank will "ring" like a bell if you tap it with a hammer, while a cast crank will sort of, um...well, not. Or you could always go to mortec.com, chevymania.com or similar sites and punch in a part/casting number from the crank.

Simple test - the forged crank will ring (almost like a bell). Just a light tap with a small piece of metal or whatever and you should hear it. Yes the casting mold lines are different from the forging lines but I'd never remember the difference without the pictures to compare. :yesnod:

The Dude,
and crardoO.....Yep when I tapped it it rang like a bell......the big counter weights are more narrow and they looked smoother than cast....Not going to use since it's not internal balanced.....
Ordering complete forged internal balance assembly.....Thanks for the info and reply..... :flag :seeya Cappy
