Default Another 400 Question.

Here is another 400 questio, this one concerning balancing. I already have a stock 400 crank that has been machined and is ready to use. I also have a set of 5.7" rods that I will be using. My machine shop recommended NOT going for the internal balancing and that I should use what I have and use a 400 flexplate and a 400 externally balanced harmonic dampner. Does this sound right to you? They said that typically, it takes a lot of added weight to ballance the 400 internally if you are using the stock crank(like I am).
Also, will using the 5.7" rods cause a balance problem when using the stock flexplate and dampner?
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

I agree with your machine shop. Internal balancing a stock crank can get very expensive, for little or no benefit. In a super high output, all forged, engine, it is worthy of consideration. With a stck cast crank, in my opinion, it's a waste of money.

The 5.7" rods will pose no unusual problems. The engine will need to be balanced, of course, but the job will take the 5.7" rods in stride. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!

:iagree: The rods will not have any ill effects on balance with your stock componants.
