Default Stock sb400 strength

I currently have a rebuilt and balanced 2bolt main sb400 with stock crank and rods(hypereutectic pistons). I'm planning on building it up with afr heads and fuel injection to just over 500 hp/torque and 6500rpms. My question is....is there any reason to buy an upgraded crankshaft or rods to take this amount of power?

After my comp cam ground itself to smitherines in 1 year, I'm going to have the engine out and apart again. What engine parts do you guys think need to be upgraded to support this power/rpm use?

I would think stock would be just fine, By the way, were you at the Bremerton Autocross about a month ago?

I autocross at bremerton all the time. Last month with porsche club was when the cam finally gave in. So did my battery kill switch and my ignition wire. It was a rough race... Were you there?

I agree with Washingtonracer. While you're in there, a set of ARP rod bolts would be good insurance. I know that the bill is mounting, but ARP main bolts or studs could reduce the risk of calamity, also. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!

Ditto to the above on ARP...I'm currently running 400sb 2 bolt,ARP's, hypereutectics, with the 5.7 stock rods from earlier-supposed to be a bit "beefier" than most of the later 5.7 rods, without any problems. No dyno #'s on mine yet, but as you can see from the sig my short block is takin' a bit of a poundin'...
However I'm "redlining" at about 5800rpm...6500rpm seen a lot I would consider a forged crank....and if funds available I'd also consider splayed 4 bolt main-may be overkill, but at higher rpm would be peace of mind...

Yeah, I was there, I don't know if it was a porsche day or not , it was a NASTY NASTY rainy day. I took my 240 there. But I did watch you hit the track and I was really impressed with your driving. You know how to handle your car. Even the Commentator was impressed with your driving . Expecially through the Salom section. Anyways I plan on hitting the track again soon with the 240, So maybe I will see you there.

:iagree:, the key to a stock 400SB longevity is rpm below 6K and building it with the right tolerances....
As stated above, a good set of bolts/studs will keep the torque even and tight which is what you want.
I have a 400Sb in the garage.......and its a 2 bolt :reddevil

Tipping 500hp here with a Scat Cast 9000 crank/rods.Turn 6500 rpms,ARP bolts,so far so good.
