Most people say get at least 500 miles on your motor before you let her rip. I disagree.

Think about how drag engines are torn down between races and rebuilt for the next run. They don't break these engines in. I know this is an extreme case. But, I believe that Chevy at the Corvette plant runs the engine to redline for a specific time period on a brand spankin new motor.

I talked to a local tuner here, and he feels if the motor was put together correctly it will stay together whether you go easy for the first 500 or not.

IMHO, For a STREET CAR, a min of 500 miles.
If it is all out Drag, let it rip now! A little oil use never hurt anything.
I have seen it done both ways, and watched some street cars suffer the oil use/wiped cam bearing blues if not broken in properly.
A key factor is knowing all the tolerances at build up too.............
If you have a main/rod brg problem, it will show up way sooner than 500 miles. bottom line, assesmbly tolerances are a big key to motor life.
Set them for the application and enjoy. My Long block has not been apart in my 68 Camaro since 1985....I built it, so I know every tolerance. It was broken in for ...500 miles, just like our 00' vette.
But at 501......:smash: :smash:
