Default GM LS1 Crate Engine

Has anyone bought one yet? Jegs sells this for $5800. I think it would be a great drop in on an older C4 or late year C3 with 4L60E.

Hey Ag! Love that handle. TAMU Class of '86 here. I love the LS1 in my C5. Is your car an '88? or is that the year you graduated? While the LS1 is a great motor, I've read that there is a lot of work (i.e. $$$) to swap one for a traditional SBC. If it were me, I'd spend that $$ and find an LT1 and put the LT4 goodies on it. You be in for a lot less headaches and money ahead.....use some of that $$ saved to get those LT4 heads professionally ported and you would have as much or more HP. The LT1 would be a lot easier to graft in since the L98 and LT1 have a lot more in common, both being SBC.

I am Class of '88 - yeah I know, the handle gets members confused. I actually have a 95 LT1 Vette. I also had an '86, that I bought as a booby prize because I couldn't afford the payments on an '88 roadster at the time.

My subject topic actually involves another potential Vette to add to the harem. Being that the early C4s are abundant and many are available for cheap with tired L98s, I thought it may be worthwhile to stuff an all aluminum LS1 in it. GM rates the crate engine at 320HP.

You might want to go the salvage route. You can get a low milage engine with everything you need for ~$3500.
