Default HEI distributor and tach lead question

I want to replace the HEI ignition in my '79 w/ a Mallory Comp 9000 Unilite Electronic distributor. I want to keep the OEM tach functional. I sent this question to the Mr. Gasket (Mallory) tech board. They're answer is a little helpful but also ambiguous. Will it hurt if I hook it up to the (+) if it should be the (-)? See my email to them below along w/ their answer:

I would like to install a Mallory Comp 9000 unilite distributor (mechanical advance) and Pro master coil in my 1979 Camaro. How can I hook up the factory tach. Of course, it currently has a lead that connects to the tach lead on the HEI distributor cap. thanks,

Discussion Topics: ignition
Solution:
I believe the factory tach on that is a neg trigger tach in that case it will go to the neg side of the coil. if it is a pos trigger tach then it will go to the pos side of coil.

Default Re: HEI distributor and tach lead question (need-for-speed)

Well due to the enormous response to this thread, I thought I would update you guys. I installed the Mallory and hooked up the tach lead to the negative side of the coil and it works like a charm!
