Default Rotating Assembly Prices???? anyone know of a good place with good prices?

Well as I dig into my engine and start finding more and more thing that I should just replace in my quest to build my first REAL engine with my blood and sweat, "mostly blood" all over it. I have decided to just replace the whole Rotating Assembly. I have found a shop in AZ that quoted me 1,200 for a complete forged kit for a 350, with 6.0 rods "standard 350 crank dimensions:" and dished pistons, lowering the estimated compression down to 7.8:1 or something around there. The problem is, the guy seemed a little shady, not liking the idea that I was going to shop around a bit and let him know, stating that it is going to be taken to a swap meet though it is new. I asked for the name of the crank and rods, he stated that it was made by some company by the name of Specality products. "NEVER HEARD OF THEM" I am not doubting this guy as of yet, I just want to know what quality I am buying, and it is a pretty good price so far.

Other than that Local shops will sell me a complete setup from Eagle for $1,600.

Does anyone know of any shops or anything that can beat these prices?

I am looking for a standard DIM Forged crank, H beam forged 5.7 or 6.0 rods, and a good Dished Forged piston that .040 over.

Any help with this would be greatly appriciated.

Most "standard" kits won't have pistons for that low compression, but for some good sources and pricing take a look at

Well I know that Eagle makes a kit that apperantly will drop my compression to a satisfactory area. Not sure what. I am just wondering if anyone knows of a online dealership or something that deals with internal parts.

Oh and Greg thanks for the links, But only one of those work.:(

call scat, they do custom work ups for assemblies & also make a better rod than eagle. at least in my oppinion, prices always seem to be reasonable as well.

Somehow the links got screwed up when I typed them in, the forum software generated the HTML refs, some were ok some were a different format. ANyway, think they all work now.

There's a dealer on ebay that sales Eagle rotating assemblies at good prices. There probably others on there as well. Here a link to his store front on ebay. I have no direct experience with him or his product/services, just giving you another option to think about.

I bought my forged 'kit' (less crank/rods) from Summit and took my block to Waterhouse Motors in Tacoma. They did all the machine work very reasonable. All I had to do was assemble the pieces.

I was quoted ~$1600 for all forged 383 kit with 5.7 inch rods from SCAT direct.

It came with SRP pistons (~10.5 to 1), 4340 crank, etc.

Seemed quite reasonable...my choice right now.

:)

I would forget the shady mechanic. Don't need questionable parts in your shortblock...

I heard even Eagle is China made...not sure though.

I thought that Eagle and Scat were side by side in quality. I have a little more technical question now... Anyone up for it????... Okay here it goes... What is the oiling mains like in the scat or Eagle cranks? are they just like that of stock. Or are they improved in anyway?

So I am guessing that 1,600 for a complete setup with my JE forged dished pistons and 6 inch rod is a good price. I am willing to pay that amount, it will me more like december before I can do it though.
This will be a first time when I have not been able to find a better price than what my local shop offers. Normally they are around 20 or so % higher than anyone else.

hmm

Any way to upgrade the pisons to JE and maybe 5.875" rods? (Thinking lower rings for nitrous here)

i dunno, if he could do one with the JE's i dont see why not since SRP is actually a JE piston,,and i bet he could do that rod....i wouldnt worry to much about the lower rings unless you were gonna spray some big hp........ :chevy

Parts Scavengers had some good prices. His web site went down and I don't think it is back up, but try http://www.partscavengers.com or http://www.competitionproducts.com

I e-mailed the guy... I don't know if I want to go to a 383, does that decrease the RPM potential? Well, hopefully will find a deal soon, then get this project finished.
