Default exhaust fumes in a garage

not sure if this is the best place for this but here goes, what do you guys do for when your running your car in the garage. it kind of sucks to open both doors to get the fumes out when its only 40 or so outside. i was thinking of just using coffee cans over the tips and some kind of hose that would run out the side door. anybody have any ideas :smash:

Dryer venting could probably be used for this purpose.

Years ago a friend had an old furnace fan outside, behind the garage, it was hooked up to two rubber hoses ~3" dia. with simple damper arrangement to control the amount of suction. Then the hoses ran through holes in the wall. It worked great... slip on the hoses, switch the fan on, then start the motor. But without the fan it worked like poopie

I'll make me up something like that someday.

my mechanic uses vacuum hoses (like hoses from a vacuum cleaner?) that he clips onto exhaust that run out two holes in the door of his shop

Most of the shops that use hoses are very large, which provides some dilution for any CO that escapes the exhaust. In a small garage any amount is dangerous and running the car in a small enclosed space must be avoided at all costs. Even hoses cannot remove all of the gas. CO is cumulative in the blood stream and over time even a minor amount can be fatal.

Every winter, you read about families that are killed due to CO exposure from faulty heater exhaust. Bottom line, don't do it.
