Default kinda O/T: aligning a scattershield for 1st gen SBC?

i just bought a used lakewood scattershield from a friend today. it looks pretty straight forward, like bolt-in, but i read in the catalogs that you have to align the tranny input shaft to the crank pilot bearing. how the heck do i make any adjustments? this thing has the dowels to line it up on the back of the block and the threaded tabs for the transmission mounting ears are welded in place. so what gives? do i need to align anything other than the ball stud and if so how?
i haven't really looked at it yet, it's still in the back of the truck. i'll pull it out tomorrow and clean it real well. maybe it will be more obvious. still, looking for those with the experience.
