Should i polish the beams and peen my LT1 powder metal rods?
I wanted to reuse my GEN II LT1 rods and wanted to prep them like the old Chevy forged pieces where u polish the beams and then shot peen the rod - before installing better rod bolts. Would the powder metal rods strength and reliability improve at all by this. Or does a powder metal rod just have the same stess distribution with or without treatment?
Google says nothing 'bout polishing and peening powder metal rods,

No expert here; however, the old forged rods were first polished and then shot peened afterward to eliminate potential stress risers in the forging itself. Don't think that powered metal rods would have the same requirements other than light polishing to remove any flashing or obvious stress riser. Peening the rods may help, but I'll defer to the engine builders on this forum.

That is good info to find out.
Thx RU, i would like to know if anyone as more info for prepping PM rods. They just seem to good to replace. I need to take a better look at mine and see if there is anything on the beam that needs to be polished. Good rod bolts are an improvement for any stock rod. And shot peening is cheap. But I would still need to spend less than $100 to resize/recondition the journals to beat performance rod prices now.
