Default SBC roller cam help

Ok I'm building a old block and going to use a roller cam.

When using a roller cam is the thrust plate/washer necessary? It's not expensive I just wondered if it's built into the design to have it come forward the .03

Thanks

A factory roller requires the plate to locate it fore and aft. Factory rollers have the cut/indent in the nose for the plate. The timing gear and plate hold the cam in place.

Nonfaxtory (retro) cams will still need the can button. You'll have to modify the a late model timing chain and/or block to make it work since the factory has a smaller bolt circle.

The best thing to do is order a Retro fit roller camshaft.

Thanks That is what I did. Took a picture of the cam and sent it to a few friends and I think they were afraid to open the pic... I titled it "lovely Lumps"
