Default BBC crank straightening question.

Bought a new old stock Chevy crank a while back. Might have been dropped in handling somewhere over the years. I'm having the machine shop do some tweaks to get rid of the center area runout. Any words of wisdom from anybody's previous experience with a similar problem?

Thanks,
Mike

Default This Is A Question For Blockman!

Assuming that the crank in question is forged, the only method of straightening the crank that I know of is with a BFH. Any heat applied to the crank to facilitate getting the crank straight will alter the metallurgy of the crank in that area making it suspect in my opinion. Depending upon the amount of work to do, it may be best just to buy another crank.

Blockman is the one you want to talk to on this issue though. I'm sure he's done this more than a couple of times and knows where to straighten and when to buy another crank. Good Luck!
