Default Big Block rebuild....need some tips

Can anyone suggest a link for rebuild tips? It's a simple rering, rods, mains. Ate the cam/ lifters and trashed the engine. Last rebuild was me and Chiltons in 1996. Looking for latest/ greatest tips. I can dig the Chiltons back out if I have to.

Engine: '71 454 LS6 crate motor stock bore
balanced/ blueprinted
4 bolt / steel crank rods .20 mains .10
rectangle port heads
All GM except Bullet cam / Morel roller hydralic lifters
Street application

Also, in '96 I polished the alum intake and applied 2 coats of Eastwood Polished Alum clear coat. It looked great for 5 or 6 yr but slowly started looking tired. After stripping it I discovered the alum had actually begun to oxidize under the clear coat. Has anyone had better luck with anything else?
Thanks in advance

Here's a good book- at a Big Block price-$80+ but there are some used ones out there for $20+.

http://www.amazon.com/Modify-Chevrol.../dp/0760302030

It's next on my buy list.
