Default Premature roller cam failure BB LS6

Have been very pleased with this cam/ valvetrain that was recogmended by a local engine builder / friend of mine. Herbert cams are well known to be fine products. After some "not quite right" sounds from the left bank, I tore it down hoping to find a lifter in need of replacement. Cam and rollers look like corn cobs. Herbert tech says sounds like excessive spring pressure. Send it to us. I also am hearing about roller needle bearing failure issues and some manufactures have gone to a heavier built needle bearing. I built this BB 12 yr ago fully expecting 100K miles, not 60K. The failure is definately not from exessive RPMs. The 65 is a cruise car and only sees the redline on occasion to clear the exhaust. Any help appreciated.

Racing camshafts do not last very long without frequent attention. 60K miles is more than a lifetime for roller camshafts. Spring pressure is a requirement and also a rev-kit is mandatory to keep those heavy lifters from bouncing off the cam. Take the thing out and put a good flat tappet cam as a L72 or L71 cam and they give trouble free performance. Remember those two engines came with the 50K or 5 year warranty. And as a side lite, use the stock rockers if your not using them now.

Solid rollers need oil. So low rpm and oil pressure is harder on them. The rollers need inspection periodically.

These are hydraulic rollers. We may indeed have an oilling issue since the damage is 90% on the left bank.
