Default Midrange Horsepower Increase. Lingenfelter Vs AFR LT4 heads.

As the snow drifts down and business continues to suck I've been giving thought to ways I can increase midrange power (4000/6000 rpm). The toy puts out 585rwhp @5900 and 550 lbs torque @4900 rpm. The LT-1 heads came from Lingenfelter in '95. The CC 305 cam is excellent. Boost is 14 lbs @ 6 grand. The air intake for the blower does the job and I can't change the blower pulley. Adding a aftercooler may give me 24 extra rwhp but @ 6500rpm. It appears the heads are the bottleneck.
Anybody do research between the two sets of heads. I know the power is up there but I'm looking for a steeper curve below 5000rpm.
Are the AFR heads the way to go????

Since you have a 383, I think it is a tossup.
If you had a 350, I would say go with the stock ported heads.

I have a 350 with the AFR 190 heads, and I think the 190 cc ports are slightly too large for a 350 at mid-range.

I'm talking with no boost here.

I would give the AFR the nod. the blower will help pick up the velocity with the big ports and lessen the restriction. a bit more compression with REALLY good gas would help if you can't increase blower CFM with a smaller pulley.

you may want to consider leaving the compression low and going with a new blower that will flow more cfm at lower revs, that will make that torque curve stay flat and really get you going. I would think that you would have traction problems with the torque you have NOW!!! nice ride. :yesnod:

You have three bottlenecks. You didn't give cam specs, but I would same #1 is the cam you need a high lift sollid roller. You also didn't give exhaust specs. #2 I would say that you need bigger than 1 3/4 and dual 3 inch system. #3 Whats always going to hold you back is 383 ci. For the same price you could have had 396 ci.

One of the locals went to 18 degree pontiac heads for his blown setup. Monty on this forum has Dart 18 degree heads. I would waste the money on any head that couldn't flow over 300 cfm @.600
