Re: Series 21 Locked & Loaded! (Merlin522)
Awesome! :yesnod: There's light at the end of the tunnel and I think it's your driving lights. :yesnod:
Hey somethint just came through my mind, When I removed the body off my frame, I had to remove the front and rear bumper covers. I see your body has those already fitted on and even blended into the rest...my question is, since you'll have to put back the front and rear bumper before lowering the body for the final time, won't it hit?
Steve it's sooooo great to see your car moving forward again :yesnod: . Everything looks so right, you've got some top-notch craftsmanship there :D .
I think that the forum members are as excited as you are to see your car completed. I will definitely have to make it to Cruisein III if you go
:smash: !
Jen – The SC does have a BOV, but it generally releases boost at idle. The would be cool if we could somehow integrate it into a traction control system. That’s quite a novel idea!!
Lohkay – I don’t know. I’ve never looked under there while they were raising/lowering it. The front end is quite different than a stock front end. I’ll have to pay more attention when I am out there. I know that they haven’t take either end off when taking the body on or off, so I’ll ask next time I’m out there.
SmokedTires – Thank you! If it is ready, I’ll plan on going.
compuvette – I just hope we don’t have too much force!!
I've got to visit this section of the forum more often...
That has got to be one of the best engines that I have ever seen!
Steve, just curious, how much power do you expect out of that thing, and how much do you expect to have invested in it when it is completed (if you don't mind me asking).

Hey Aaron! Thanks for the kind words. Like Keith said, lots of power! It's really hard to say at this point. Most of the engines that Chris has built in this size range put out around 750-800 HP normally aspirated. He seems to be able to squeeze more power out of these things than many builders due to lots of balancing & careful attention to tolerances. This engine went through 3 mockups before assembly. Whipple has seen anywhere from 1,200 -1,400 HP at 12-15# boost. There are quite a lot of variables. Anything over 1,000 on the first run will make me happy. Our estimated boost right now is around 8#. Next, we will have Whipple send us 12# pulleys which is what I plan to run on the street. Those will run on 92 octane gas with no octane boost & should be good for a reliable 1,200+ HP. I will also make one run on the dyno at 20# boost with race gas. The blowers are capable of 35#, so there is no telling what the engine "could" do. My guess is close to 2,000HP, but the belt system simply won't handle that kind of boost. So, to answer your question my best guess would be around 1,500HP in max sustainable boost in street trim & somewhere around 1,200-1,300 in daily driver setup. Variances could be as high as 200HP either way. Only time will tell. As for cost, the final cost on the engine & labor will be right around $40,000. This includes the blowers & everything you see. Total cost for the project so far is around $135,000. I'd have to go back & add everything back up, but that's probably a close guess. When it's all said & done I hope to be under $150, but we'll see. WAY more than I wanted to spend, but with guys like Monty around - it's getting hard to keep up with the Joneses!!
 Plus or minus 200HP  - That is a 400HP variance - - Daily driver setup - - simply AWESOME - That engine and car are a work of art!
$150k - Well that is about as much as an Italian exotic - And when you're done you will put them ALL to shame - American Style! :yesnod:
If you ever bring it down to California (or Southern Oregon for that matter)... let us know. I'd be willing to take a day off of work to see it in person.
I know it's got to be on your site somewhere but can't put a finger on it. Who did you have make the fuel tank? I need a custom aluminum tank for my car and am looking for bids.
