Re: A killer supercharger motor on CamaroZ28.com being built... (Lohkay)
I beleive that the throttle body and elbow are from Accufab - the guys at Fast Times use them alot and it looks familiar. The manifold is either a Victor Junir or a Super Junior - I'm guessing Super Junior cause it looks bigger. I've seen those rails before, they aren't production, but I don't know who makes them. I'd guess Accufab as well since thats where the TB and elbow appear to be from.
The low mount alternator it a pretty good idea, and it sure does clean up the top of the motor, especially if you're trying to make room for a supercharger or turbo(s). It would solve a couple of my packageing issues, but I don't know if it would work on a Vette due to the crossmember. Those Camaro's have a removable K-member that alot of those guys modify or buy aftermarket to fit. I wonder if the low mount exposes the alternator to more road dirt and water - and if it would negativelt affect it's durability.
It looks like a very nice setup and should probably make alot of power.

And besides, isn't the engine further up front on a camaro? Leaving space for the pulleys and stuff? As for the intake, the super victor was my guess. Its a good thing to know that EFI can be fitted on that intake.
Re: A killer supercharger motor on CamaroZ28.com being built... (Lohkay)
Jeez, I thought I was bad. I just read a post over on the Thirdgen.org site by Blown bird that he's selling the supercharger setup, and going turbo. He just installed the motor in the car recently, and hadn't even completed it. http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...threadid=77488
Power corrupts, judging by what I'm seeing on the various car forums, there's gonna be quite a few pump gas 1000+hp turbo street cars out there pretty soon.
Re: A killer supercharger motor on CamaroZ28.com being built... (Monty)
Yeah, you guys have me all confused....how the hell can you hook up 1000+hp with street tires? Even on a track, you'd be spinning up to your top gear. You did try your 675hp engine right? I'm sure you already had some major traction problems no? Just asking as I'm planning a 800hp BB for the near futur but if you all think it ain't enough, there must be a reason.
Re: A killer supercharger motor on CamaroZ28.com being built... (Lohkay)
I have to keep street tires because I'm still running the stock, but beefed up, Corvette IRS. I've had thoughts about going to a 4-link 9" or Dana60, but since my car is 95% street, I'd prefer to keep the IRS as long as I can. think switching back to an automatic transmission will help some, since they aren't so hard on the driveline - assuming I keep the 4L80E shift firmness programming reasonable.
I ran the naturally aspirated 650hp SBc 427 for about 5 weeks, and it was a handful but once you got the car pointed in the right direction and moving forward it was a blast. It's mainly just a matter of using some common sense, feathering the throttle off the line, and knowing how much throttle you can use in the corners. One advantage to the Corvette is that since the differential hard mounted to the frame, you don't have it moving around like a straight axle car.
I really don't think the twin turbo SBC 427 will be that much worse. I may even loose a little off-idle torque since my CR is lower, but it will more than make up for it after 3000 rpm, which by then the car will already be moving forward and hopefully won't have as much wheel spin and less shock to the drivetrain.
As for the reason - "power corrupts". My wife and friends always tell me they think I would rather be building the car than driving it, they may be right. But the bar keeps getting higher and higher, I just felt that the turbos were the way to go. I'm betting that after a few months or so, you'll get comfortable with your new BB and you'll start tinkering with it again. I guess I get bored with it once the fear of it wears off.

Thats what I thought....everytime someone says I'm nuts, I answer that you get used to the power you have rather quickly and after a long time you get bored of it and just want more. Even tough I thought there would be a limit somewhere when its just enough. I guess its higher than I thought. ;)

Yep, totally agree! I started out to build a 500 HP big block, and now I'm waiting for AFR to finish my new BBC heads that *they say* will make 750 HP with my setup if I can get a decent exhaust installed.
The problem, for me, seems to be that I just can't bring myself to buy lower power parts when the pricing is similar.

Monty: Tried to find a low mount alternator set up for my big block, couldn't do it cross member was in the way. Could probably be fabbed up.
Try these guys, get the catalog because the web site isn't all that great, the catalog will have you drooling for hours though! http://www.hotrodlane.cc/ the place is called Street & Performance, they have tons of different setups for all kinds of applications, might be worth looking into. I'm ordering all the billet brakets soon.
Re: A killer supercharger motor on CamaroZ28.com being built... (Monty)
You do reach a point where more power on street tires is useless. I have 940 destop dyno horsepower and with 305-50-15 TA radials in 3rd gear you still can not get on it fully. Last year I got a little to agressive and it went around taking 3 lanes of traffic. Luckily I didn't hit anything but it left me with new respect for power. After 35 years of hot rodding I finally have a motor that has more power then I can use on the street. It is smooth power from idle on up but I find myself bouncing off the rev limiter at 7000 in anything but 4th and 5th. My 843 HP nitrous motor with 4oo, 4.11 gears and slicks was alot
faster and easier to control.
Re: A killer supercharger motor on CamaroZ28.com being built... (Lohkay)
460 cubic inches, 12 lbs of boost from a 8-71, super high flowing heads heavily ported, freeflowing exhaust, full roller valve train, 2 850 double pumpers, good ignition and 35 years of experience on how to get it all to work. In a nut shell that is all.

Oh man that's gotta be a wild ride! I can't iamgine what that kind of power feels like.
