Default Lets talk blower...

I'd like to know more about blowers and I'm sure other people too. If someone can please explain the different models and how they work. What would work on a SB, BB. Whats needed to install one. And what would be the downside of that system.

I could answer a few questions myself, but I want to hear what the people that had the experience of owning a blown engine have to say.

Thank you.

I thought I'd get more answers. :( Then, can I get at least links to other sites to educate myself?

Lohkay,
the Blower Drive Service website is pretty interesting and has some good information about roots blowers, parts, fuel injection, etc.

If someone is really interested and has the funds to install a blower I would gladly help them . I have a 8-71 blown bigblock 940HP and I would be willing to share tips with anyone.
No dreamers please.

Lohkay, Get the book "Street Supercharging" by Pat Ganahl. It can be purchased through Jegs or Summit or your local speed shop can probably get it for you, I think its around $14-15 plus shipping. It explains all about the different types of superchargers , manufacturers, vendor contact phone numbers, necessary mods to engine , carb, ignition, etc.
I think why more people don't try them is the initial outlay of cash ($2500-3000), they would rather buy a carb/manifold here...a cam later, heads next year, etc. Eventually they have still spent the same amount of dollars but have lost the low end torque a blower gives. A small roots-style blower on a small block (like a Weiand 177 on a 350) can give you around 550 HP and over 500 ft. lbs. of torque (500 ci. big-block territory) yet remains docile for street use. A centrifical style is a little more peaky (doesn't give a lot of extra torque down low...1,500-2,000 RPM) but would fit under the hood of your Corvette. Speaking of "holes in the hood", there has been a number of posts latlely about blowers and having to cut the hoods...most people want to be "sneaky" and they want to look stock...but if you want attention or even if you DON't want attention, you are going to get it anyway. I can't even go into the gas station or grocery store without someone coming up and wanting to see why my carb/air cleaner is sticking out of the hood! :yesnod:

Lol yeah, I have no issue with having a big hole in the middle of my hood. But for now, I'm just gathering information. I will order that book you talked about.
