Default New Tom's 30 spline posi & side yokes

This is for anyone who my be interested in what Tom's polished 30 spline posi and side yokes look like :) .

This use a close up, I was trying to show just how incredibly big the C-clip is on the side yokes holding them in, very beefy stuff here :D

Oooh, I love 'em! How about a few comparison pics when you remove the stock stuff?

Flareside I took the parts to work to use the digital camera today. If you look at a Mid-America mag, you can easily see the difference in the side yokes. You will also be able to compare by looking at yours on your car. If you have the regular side yokes like I had, you'll have a u-bolt clamping the u-joint. The HD units that Mid-America sells has caps similar to what was used on BB Vettes. The 30 spline sode yokes as you can see have the u-joints pressed into the ends, then bolted to the side yokes, this doesn't allow you to over tighten & crush the u-joint caps.

I'm in the process of doing the same think...I'm surprised, it doesn't look like they polished around the pin area which is where most stock posi's crack. Tom's also said I may need to grind off the "ears" on the third member to allow the 30 spline axles to clear, have you checked that out? One other question, since the 30 spline are larger diameter (at least in the spline area) do they neck down in the bearing/seal area? Thanks, Deen

I was actually suprised to see that it doesn't look like they polished around the crosspin too. Looking at my old posi crosspin, it looks to be the same size ~ 19mm with a hand scale. Maybe someone had a large crosspin installed before or the LCP isn't much bigger  ? The ends of the side yokes are very close to the pin.

I didn't know about grinding the "ears", but I'm probably going to drop the diff off Monday, so I'll find out.

It looks like the bearing/ seal journal is gound the same size but I haven't measured it. I think they just have a bigger spline on the bevel gear and open the posi housing for it to fit.

I "found" the ears and cut them off yesterday...I'm also fabricating a 6-link so I have the whole center assembly set up in a vise on my bench which makes it MUCH easier to work on.
I also looked at Tom's web site and the 30 spline Posi can be ordered with or without the large cross shaft...it's an option. If you paid for the large cross shaft and didn't get it you should be giving them a call...
I also looked at my stock side yokes again yesterday and it looks like there is plenty of room to increase the splined area and still maintain the stock bearing/seal size, guess I should look FIRST before I bother someone with questions! :yesnod:
Keep us informed on your progress. Thanks, Deen
