Default Auto tranny shields ?

At what point is an explosion shield required/ a good idea to install onto an automatic tranny? I'm looking in possibly converting to an auto & trying to find out all I can.

NHRA requires a SFI spec. trans shield (automatic) on any car running quicker than 10.99 or any car exceeding 135 MPH. If you exceed 9.99 you also need to add a SFI spec. flywheel and flywheel shield.

If you stay with your stick, they require a SFI spec. flywheel, clutch, and "flywheel shield" (all three) if you run 11.99 or quicker.

At first I bought the two piece SFI rated red anodized aluminum tranny and flex shield. I couldn't fit the tranny piece correctly so I went to a flak blanket. After the last tranny install I didn't put the blanket back in.

Thanks George. It looks like I won't have to worry about a shield at this point. I'll call a local tech inspector & ask if it'll be required locally to be safe. How hard would it be to add a blanket later?
