I'll find out today. You're right, this thing is heavy, but from what I hear they are practically bullet proof, especially in a light car. Art Carr said it's rated for 1500 lb ft and a 24,000lb GVW vehicle, luckily our cars are a little lighter than that ;).
I also got my new turbo pistons in too. Had to go with a full dish to get the CR down to 8.5.

Like a glove....
I had to cut off a small 'ear' at the front of the transmission, but other than that, it fits like a glove. I'm going to have to reposition my starter cable but that's it. The transmission crossmember is going to have to be modified, as the 4L80E's mounting points are about 1" farther back than the 700R4's that my original factory crossmember was made for. Also, the driveshaft will have to be shortened, I'm guessing about 4", but don't know for sure yet since I haven't received the Turbo 400 yoke yet, a got a billet 4340 yoke from Strange.
Now it's a matter of getting the transmission computer from TCI/FAST and reinstalling my factory shifter.

No, just based on the recommendation of Precision Turbo and the results of people I've seen run them. There are plenty of good choices. This one just kinda worked out because I got it for a good price.

My speedo, tach and other guages have been swapped out for Autometer Ultralight guages. Regardless, there are companies which offer modified tailhousings for the 4L80E which use a speedo gear, enabling you to use the stock speedo if you'd like. Bowtie Overdrives is one company, and they offer everything you need - modded tail housing, tranny controller, crossmember, etc.

Hey,
it's amazing what a can of Krylon semi-gloss black will do. Seriosuly, I've spent a couple of weekends under ther ewith degreasers, cleaners, scouring pads, and rattle cans of paint, but believe me, it looks better in the pictures than it does in person. there are alot of guys ont he forum who have doen frame off's that I would eat off of. It's like jewelry on 4 tires. Really though, who cares what the bottom of your car looks like other than you?
As for the tranny, we'll see. I hear it's the strongest auto that GM has ever built and that it's practically bullet proof, but we'll find out.

Jeff, I didn't realize that the Vettefest is on March 3 this year. For some reason I was thinking it was 2 weeks later. I should have my car back by mid Feb, but I doubt I'd be able to get the motor pulled, o-ringed, rebalanced with new pistons, dyno tuned and tested, and then reinstalled in 2 weeks.

Well if the tranny can break, I'm sure someone here will be the first to accomplish this. If i was the one buying it, I am quite sure I would break it. Thats just how things work.
But none the less, that thing looks sweet...nice and clean...gotta love new parts

Yes. John Meaney's 1300hp twin turbo 88 Vette has a 4L80E it.
