Default 4 pipes all the way back

i was wondering if anyone has dont 4 smaller exhaust pipes all the way back, (instead of 2)

would this give a more exotic sound? (assuming u put x pipes in there too)

The problem is that you'd end up adding quite a bit of weight (not to mention space and complexity) to the system in order to get the same flow as two larger pipes. For example:

Diameter/Cross-Sectional Area
1.75 4.81
2.00 6.28
2.15 7.26
2.50 9.82
3.00 14.14

So you can see you'd need 4 2.15" pipes to get the same cross-sectional area as 2 3" pipes.

The smaller diameter pipes would have a higher resonance frequency. I'm honestly not sure how it would sound though. It would be an interesting experiment.

I don't know if this car "sounds" exotic...but it has four LARGE pipes...

It's a 632ci-or about the same displacement as FOUR Honda 2liter engines...

The important object is to get the largest set up on the car with a minimum amount of weight. I`m afraid 4 mufflers and accompanying necessary pipes would hinder the performance not improve it.

I have a silly comment on weight in race cars 'if you throw it up and comes down, it weighs to much'...funny that never seems to work either.. i

Have fun Jim ...

I use to weigh everything, even the bolts and fasteners...try it sometime, I think you will be surprised..

I ran a polished aluminum bell housing in one of my fuel roadsters until I was caught through an inspection. We were normally left alone by inspectors as they considered that we were crazy anyway just for driving them.
