Default Take a quick tour of AFR w/ me

We took a little tour of AFR this afternoon. Tony Mamo was gracious enough to show us a few of the secrets within this "area 51" facility. Well, not really that top secret.. but the research and development that goes into their designs might as well be something under government security. I quickly snapped the pics below. Some didn't come out so great. Sorry, I'm just not Jimmy Olsen.

First thing we noticed, this IS a lobby for guys. No girly mags here:

As we walked in, we thought we had come upon the kitchen facilities. This place was immaculate. All the latest CNC machines too. Kind of like "porn" to a machinist. lol.

These are 'raw'. The only machining done here is on the sides where they will bolt into the first machining operation.

These have come out of the first stage machining. All the basic surfaces have been cut although not much cutting yet to the places that really count.

Here's some under construction. This little area, over to the side, pretty much lost in this huge facility, was all I needed to feel a rush.

From there.. well, no more pictures.
It was definitely an adrenalin rush, and we (my two work buddy-gear-heads) want to thank Tony and AFR for letting us drool all over their place.
If you're ever in the area, just look for the road signs they've left all over the front... then turn right... You're there.

and this one... that went down well past the 3rd street light on your right.

..Taken that tour. Amazing how they go from a chunk of metal to a finished product.

Oh, more directions courtesy of someone we know.

That is one of the cleanest factories I have ever seen No wonder they make such great products (actually there is probably no correlation there, but who cares)
