Default anyone with zz4 experience

Since I bought my big block hood I have a chance to put a high rise intake on my car. I figured while I was in there I would swap the cam out. I have a stock zz4 motor in the car right now. I don't have a ton of money so I was going to skip the gm hot cam with its pricey 1.6 rockers and just get a cam that doesn't need a spring swap or special rockers. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these
This one was suggested by COMP
283thr Dur 283 in 303 ex, dur @50 227 in, 241 ex with lift of 513 in, 498 ex
I was thinking of
276hr Dur 276 in 282 ex, dur @50 224 in, 230 ex with lift of 502 in, 510 ex
Anyone have any experience with either of these cams or suggestions for another choice?
Is there anything else I should replace while I'm doing the cam swap?
Any info is appreciated.

I replaced the cam in my 89 L98 with a ZZ4 cam and matching springs from GM.
A few years later I was at a red light and the car coughed for no reason. It started making a rapping sound and was skipping.
It turned out that one of the springs broke in half and was allowing the valve to fall into the cylinder about 1 inch. I was very lucky that I didn't rev it too high. I was also only 1 mile from home.
Bottom line is replace the springs when you replace the cam!

The springs that broke were painted orange. Avoid them!

I am presently running the XR276hr with 224/230 in my 383. I like the cam alot. It is a litttle small for the 383. Peak h.p. is at 5500 rpm. I can rev to 6500 with ease. A 350 would probably peak around 6K.

Cheers,
John

Tony;

You might want to put this question on the C-2 section. A lot of guys are running ZZ-4's over there and have a lot to say,

Rob

Your probably right Rob. I thought I might be able to reach c2, c3 and even c4 ( I think teh zz4 is similiar to an 87 l98 motor) on this forum.

227/241 is really big unless you have low gears. You will like the 224/230 cam much better. Also, I wouldn't use the stock ZZ4 springs with anything other than the stock cam. The proper spring can make or break your valve train performance.

Did I read somewhere that most later zz4's already came with those springs?
