I got my plywood box with caster wheels from Bill Mitchell Hardcore race engines. It has an internal metal frame just like a little motor dolly that you buy from Harbor Freight tools.

you bolt your motor in and the crate is also fork liftable. Any engine shop that recieves crate motors probably has one.

I use mine to store my spare motor and to run them from the shops and back. The wheels makes it nice to move around

I had an LT1 bare block shipped from the west coast to NC with Forward Air for only $120. You will need to crate it, as already mentioned, to where it can be handled with a fork lift. This one was only crated on the bottom and wrapped in plastic. Also it must be delivered to and picked up from major airports that they serve. Still, the price was right.

I got a short block shipped just once, it came in a plastic tub and was trucked in by Yellow trucking. The semi had a lift in the back, the driver lowered it down then my father and I carried it into the shop.

I just had a motor shipped from Flordia to Nahville and it was shipped on a pallet and the block was wrapped in plastic. I picked it up at the local Southeastern Freight terminal. You have a few options for shipping a block.

We use R&L Carriers to ship our engines. They have great rates.

A wood pallet with the engine strapped down will suffice. I suggest black shrink wrap and cushion it and cover it with folded cardboard.
