Default Lightweight and ultra light Crankshafts

I'm doing a few motors, both destroked 400 small blocks, and was just wondering what power increase or performance difference I might see (other than it might wind up a little quicker) One crank is a crower ultra for a 353 which weighs 38 lbs and the other for a 377 which weighs 48 lbs.

We build some of our circle track engines with 283 mains and Honda journals and when they are all balanced they weigh about 31 pounds and the with the light weight rods and pistons and pins the bob weight are around the high 1300's and the drivers say they feel like that have 600 foot pounds of torque.

You figue when one cylinder fires it has to move 7 other rods and pistons and crank and now use light weight parts and you should also see a power gain as well as quickness.

Kerry at Crower told me Ultra Light was no longer avail....I had to go to Callies. Check out their Magnum XL. It's about $1400 more than their other light crank the Magnum so I went with that. Art at Callies takes the time to talk to you unlike Kerry @ Crower fwiw. Art said they sell the XL's to the circle track guys that want the quick revs out of the corners. He didn't mention horsepower increases but it stands to reason that there is some to be gained.

I purchased the Motown 4.125 bore block with 350 mains to save weight. My present crank (4.00 stroker) is 42 pounds with pendulum cut throws.

It's not just the crank. It is the total rotating assembly. You also need lighter, smaller diameter damper and light weight flywheel/clutch assembly
