Default Rear main bearing question.

In process of upgrading rods/pistons on a 1,000 mile engine. The dark area in the pics. is smooth and the crank is a Scat 4340. Any comments?

We have seen that color on the H-bearings and the F/M bearings right out of the box.

I see you have a stud kit installed on the mians but the caps have not been cut as far as I can see and when doing performace work it is recomended that the block be line hone when using there stud Kit.

And on 4 bolt blocks we don't use studs on the outside as over the last 33 years of bulding performance engines we have seen the outside studs cause cracks in the webbing of the main webbing mainly on the K-blocks do to the notch where the stud comes through webbing and we always have used a bolt on the ouside which does not cause the stress when the stud is bottomed out in the webbing of the block.
