Dual Valve Springs as a Safety Measure
Single valve springs are sufficient for an application
of mine but it has been suggested that I consider using
dual springs as a safety measure.
The reasoning is that since the car is a driver/autocrosser
and may not get the same attention as a dedicated track car,
a secondary inner spring could save the engine in the event of
a broken primary outer spring.

Dual springs or single with a damper are for harmonics. I don't know what your setup is, but unless you require higher spring pressure like a solid roller you going to have trouble finding a dual spring in light closed or open #s
There are alot of other things to worry about before a broken spring! It's very uncommon compared to the number of cars out there racing around

I've had valve impacts, broken off valves, broken roller rockers, bent push rods, smeared pistons, holes bigger than a quarter from detonation, and finally this year a broken crank shaft. Lots of other problems in my vette, but never a spring
I do check my spring pressure periodically and install springs every couple of years. I never reuse springs on a rebuild. I throw them away. I also far exceed max lift minimums. I even use +.050 retainers to lower the seat pressures to what I need. Right now I now I bought some .750 max lift springs and with the +.050 retainer it gives them a max lift of .800. My new cam is only .665 lift gross so i won't even be stressing them and they run cooler. I also don't buy cheap springs. I also talk to the local paved circle track motor builders and they told me years ago that they only run 195# seat Mid 500 open. They rev to 8000 twice a lap and the springs last all year without a problem. I never go over 7500 rpm so I feel pretty safe making my installed height bigger and dropping my seat pressures to the 190-195# range and Open pressures of around 560#

It looks like the approach to take is to understress the springs.
I'll check that pressures and coil bind clearances have cushion
and stick with the singles.
Thanks for the replies.
