Default Valve Seals on a Drag race engine

any thoughts on not running valve seals on a drag race only engine? I'm swaping to a dual spring and there is no room for a seal. I could put an O-ring on there, not sure how much good it would do. Really don't want to pul the heads back off to have them machined down for smaller seals

I have the teflon seals inside my dual springs. Will they work for you? Or is it too tight for even the teflons?

its too tight for the normal teflon seals, trying to find some alternative now.

Will some of the push-on type Viton ones like Chevy sells for fixing slightly loose guide issues work? They fit inside a stock small block spring, but not sure if they will fit a dual spring setup.

FelPro makes some smaller umbrella seals. Some are actually just a hard plastic umbrella instead of soft. They are pretty small.

How big of a spring? Is this on the big block? Can you use shields?

The exhaust isn't really an issue, but the intakes will likely pull some oil when you let off of it. Just shift to nuetral at the end of a run and no one will ever know.

If you think about it, small blocks really never used 'real" seals lilke we think of it. Basically just the O ring to keep oil from running down from retainer.

I would not run 1.26 dia springs for drag racing. Even when i used old double hump heads i had them machined for 1.46 springs without any problems.

I'm now running dual 1.56 The larger the diameter the less heat build up.

I would not run without seals. oil vapor causes detonation. It's like lowering the octane of fuel.

A true drag race engine isn`t running long enough to foul the plugs.

didn't mean foul,, just change the color enough that some would miss-read them, like pull a little oil in at cut off on the top-end,,, i see ton's

I would bring the plug gap down to .25 and run it .
Not a street car I hope .
A qt of lucas will keep it from smoking to much.
Don't run more than a QT of lucas or you will lose a motor.
WE tried 3 qts of lucas and it caused the engine oil to foam and bang.

When you are in the finals and only one run to go, you will do anything.
You have 2 choices instant mechanic in a can or drain all the oil and try to run quicker.
We chose to try the lucas.
Long weekend and no more spare parts.
