Default World Street Nationals update...

I went to the first day of qualifying today...had a great time to a point...parked our 3 vettes around the BBQ and we cooked giant burgers and kielbasa...we had tater and macaroni salad and frozen snickers and Krispy Kremes for desert....

The races started with the Outlaw class (fastest) going first...unfortunately the track was it's lousy self and only one in 8 cars could get down the track and even they had to lift...out of the first 30 cars 4 hit the walls.. ...they finally closed the track and completely re-prepped the surface...I'm sure the racers had some say in this...the next 40 cars did much better and the low qualifier was at 6.71/208 mph....the bump at that point was 7.68....there were 30 more cars to go including Pat Musi...

This is when my great time came to a close...I saw a guy 6 rows below me I thought I knew...I got up to go see him and the bleacher board I stepped down on gave way and I went down...crashed my left calf into the broken board and now it feels like Joe Frazier hit it with 100 left hooks...."down goes Fuzzy...down goes Fuzzy"...I've been icing it since then but had to come home due to the throbbing...oh well...btw Rob, you aren't the only one with bad luck...

I missed the last 3 classes and my friend Jimmy Strobel with his 7 secong 64 vette...he was going to be running Heavy Street...looks like a lot of turbo cars will be in the dance...they either crashed or ran very low 7's.....I did see a beautiful silver 68 Camaro run 7.13 @ 204 mph...funny thing was the mustang in the other lane went through the traps in the Camaro's lane, well behind the chebby though...oops...

I'm off for more ice...

Another reason I won't visit that slum again. No fatalities? That track kills more than any other in FLA.

That's the truth, Tracy...awful facility...I coudn't go back after I got hurt so I don't know what transpired on Sat and Sun...no doubt there were more wrecks...a very dangerous track to be sure...even if your run goes OK you then have to dodge like 20 potholes on the return road...no fun at night...it's the only track I've gone sideways on and just missed the wall...

I saw one wreck on sunday. A drag radial mustang
hit the wall after a wheelstand, not the tracks fault.
But, I did see them launch a car, when there was still a track
worker on the track near the finish line.

Hey Craig...do you remember the winners of the classes ?...did Jimmy Strobel make the field in heavy street ?...he's got a burgundy vette, 64 coupe...he just put in a Lenko and had never run with it before...

I didn't stay for the finals. They had a 45 minute delay because
of staging light malfunction. Then about 4 pairs later, the mustang wrecked, so I left. I did see a mid year corvette
running.

Turns out Jimmy qualified # 6 in Heavy Street with a 7.70 @ 183.60 mph...he made the semi's...hope he got some decent dough...he did really well for the first time out with the new Lenko tranny...

Stan tells me that Kenny Perry, the pro golfer, was there but didn't make the show with his 69 Camaro....
