With drag radials, is a real healthy burnout required each time for maximum traction?
What if I do a run, come back and wait for 3 races and then I'm up again (hot-lapping)? Will I need to another smokey burnout if the tires are still hot?

While the tires are hot, they will pick up anything you run over including toilet paper, cigarette butts, rocks, bottlecaps, small children, animals. So you'll want to clean them off.
A lot depends on your car and the track. Only YOU can answer that question after some experience. On our Summit ET nights (better track prep) I don't need any burn out. Do the least necessary to eliminate wheel spin. Save your tires. Burn outs are fun, showy, and the tire companies LOVE 'em.

With DR's all you want to do is get a wisp of smoke and off you go.
EVERY TIME to be consistent.
On a good track I can get away without a burnout. On a not so good track, I'll do a small burnout. I point the side mirrors down towards the tires before the burnout. As I'm doing my burnout I check the side mirrors, as soon as I see smoke start coming from the rear tires I end the burnout.
