Came across an add for a helmet from Bell under the name Pyrotect for $118.

Worth a look if you are shopping

Is there a rule about open face and full face helmets? Is there an ET at which someone must wear a full face helmet? I am looking in the NHRA rule book and I have not found anything yet.

That is a good question to which I do not know the answer.

I think if you ever plan on going on a road course you want to get a FULL face SA rated helmet. Why? SA is required on road courses and you run road courses with open windows and rocks and stuff kick up in your face sometimes.

For drag racing only you can use the M rated and open face is cooler since you are in a closed window car.

You also have to ask yourself if the car were to catch fire, how much of my face do I want covered (and of course, if fire is a concern SA is a must)

At Carlisle there is a vendor sellinf Bell, Simpson and a motorcycle only helmets. I bought a Bell that was regularly sold for $299 for $185. It is the same helmet as Bowery Boy and the plastic face piece comes off with 2 small screws. Available in white and black.
