O.K. this is what went down last week at the track. Arrived at the track at 5:00 did the usual stuff aired up the fronts, aired down the rears and let the engine cool for about a half an hour. Went to the staging lanes and lined up opposite of an 01 Cobra. I was like , I am going to walk on him on the big end. We get waved up to stage, I do a burn out and creep up and stage the first yellow light. The Cobra does the same so I stage fully (Both yellow lights on) tach up to about 3.8K and look at the tree and wait. Waiting... waitng... waiting... starting to get :mad all the sudden the tree goes down with only me staged, which catches me by surprise and I spin thru first gear. The results are the following, a 2.1 60', 13.13 et @ 103.7 mph. Question is what the heck happend? I have a stack of time slips with 13.2 and 13.3 et's at much higher speeds, like 106 to 108 mph. I even tapped the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift. I can not figure this one out.
Re: What happend? Bad launch, great ET... (ROJO99)
If you want to understand that run, you need to compare it to several runs that day and several on that other day you cited.
But you can't just compare the slips and their incremental times.
Instead load the slips into a spread sheet, such as M.S. Excel. Then I'd suggest calculating all of the incremental times too, eg.:
60-330
60-660
60-100
60-1320
330-660
330-1000
330-1320
660-1000
660-1320
1000-1320
(Density altitude if you know it)
I've learned the most about my driving by sorting my spreadsheet (with calculated incrementals) and looking for consistencies and inconsistencies. This helps identify where I am wasting time. In your case, doing this will help you learn whether that one run was legit or a timing error.
That should be apparent, if you focus on the 1000-1320 incremental time across several runs.
If you notice, from the 330'to the 1320' mark, the runs are very similar ( 7.491 vs. 7.513 ), but the times from 000' to 330' don't jive at all...
Speaking in terms of your 'slipping/fast' run vs. your 'average' run, you were almost .05 'behind' at the 60' mark ( 2.130 vs. 2.081 = .049-seconds ).....
yet by the 330' mark, you were .142-seconds AHEAD ( 5.626 vs. 5.768 )!!!!!
Now, go back and compare your 60'-330' times: on your 'slipping/fast' run, you went .191-seconds quicker, yet at the 1/8-mile trap, you were traveling almost 3 MPH slower.
If your ET-slip from the 13.259 run was from the same day, under similar atmospheric conditions, I'm 'guessing' that you got a bogus ET-slip on the 13.139 run.
Re: What happend? Bad launch, great ET... (Glensgages)
i am lost and been told that before.... iv'e lost ET but
picked up MPH and vise versa but the only thing to try is blow the tire's off in the first 100 ft. after 3 normal runs
Were you shifting as you go through the traps at the end of the 1/4. Maybe you let up a little right before the finish and there for got a lower MPH but faster time for the whole run. Your 13.13 @ 103 MPH looks good to me. I have 4.10's , so I can't compare to your 3.42's, but I will run a 12.40 @ 111 MPH.
Are you still in 4th gear at the finish and how much tach do you have to go?
