Default On run 6 of 7 last night I was informed that I spun my clutch on my burout (tires not spinning)??

The car had done great all night... and on that 6th run I ran my best run of 12.372 (see the gen disc or Z06 forum for my full thread). After the run a guy came to me and said, "Uh, you might want to go through the water box next time b/c your tires weren't spinning last burn out... all clutch" me, "S'hit"

I had revved it up to 5000 to get them spinning then got my foot on the brake. The Kumho ecsta MX's were getting VERY sticky. Odly the car never slipped a bit shifting it down the track. The last run I used the water box and all went well.

So I'd think if my clutch was getting bad it'd slip while ontrack, not just trying to do a burn on sticky tires on a sticky track. Anyone ever have this happen?

I do remember seeing that video on the net done up like a Mastercard commercial w/ the "New Firebirnd $xxxxx", "New exhaust $xxx", "Destroying a clutch while he thinks he's smoking the tires.... Priceless" The guy thinks he's doing a nasty burnout, but he's just got black somke dumping out the bottom of the car.

I spun the clutch twice in one night and although it didn't slip while I made the run, my times slowed by a bunch. I let it cool for about two hours and procedded to run 8 tenths quicker on the 3rd run.

Get this, the two times I spun the clutch was going through the water, when I did a dry burnout, no slippage That one still has me wondering.

Some racers (like everyone else) have to be taken with a grain of salt. Some of these guys just like to screw with your head. If that had happened, you would have had a horrible 60' time for that run, and you surely would have noticed it shifting into 4th. Maybe he looked at your car before you let the clutch out. Maybe you didn't make as much smoke as he had expected. Either way, whether he was serious or not, YOU know better.

RACE ON!!!

In a Z06, if you "spin" the clutch rather than the tires, and do so to the extent that you make smoke, THEN your clutch pedal will deifinitely "tell you" all is not well. Usually the pedal will hang part way down on the launch and you will miss 2d. So, if you made a clean run with a good time, you didn't smoke the clutch in the burn-out.

Also I'd suggest staying out of the water box when wearing street tires. It will make your 60' worse, not better.

Instead, you can drive around the water, and then back up until your rears just begin to enter the damp area (not the wet area). In that damp area, there is enough moistness to help get your rear tires spinning well.

A better term would be "glaze" the clutch.

The condition described is: a botched burn-out attempt where the rear tires barely spin but the engine is brought to high rpm and smoke is made by the "clutch rotating disk" being heated by the the spinning flywheel and an improperly clamped pressure plate.

Thanks fellas... considering I didn't have any symptoms of a burnt clutch then maybe all is well.
