Ironic, seeing this thread tonight (9 May)...
I ran into an old racing-buddy last night, and we compared our '
Inventing-Ways-to-Lose ' theories from years past.
He beat me with his rendition of:
"The shifter-knob came-off going into 2nd gear (12-second '68 Cougar), and it (shifter-knob) hit the toggle-switch for the fuel-pump, leaving me dead-in-the-water after a 5-oh light..."
Once heard of a 320-lb racer leave the line, wheels-up in a '70 442, only to have his girth break the welds at the front of the seat-mount;
he kept leaning-back until his foot came off the gas-pedal, with only his hands on the wheel, and his wheels-up launch was aborted!
When came forward in the seat, his foot matted the skinny, and he went wheels-up again, until his foot again came-off the accelerator pedal, etc., etc., etc...
Once saw a guy, riding his 70cc pit-bike (after breaking his
real race-bike) in 'Motorcycle Class' against a really fast bike:
he had the bike come 'out' from under him on the launch, but re-mounted his mini-bike, and won that round when his opponent fouled.
