a4 needs to be in overdrive when drag racing
i was told by a transmission shop that a stock c5 transmission was designed to build more fluid pressure when in overdrive, which will give it a firmer shift when drag racing, than if you ran it in drive through the quarter. any tranny guys who can comment on this would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that each successive gear has less line pressure...eg. 1st= most and 4th (OD) has the least. I always run the best ets in 3.

Hmmmm
My guy at the shop said the trans uses a different set of clutches & I should always leave it in 3 never OD
I have run my car in both 3 & OD & see absolutely no difference in ET.. I think it would be the same just like a manual you never shift to 5th by leaving the car in D it will only run in 1,2 & 3 it never will shift to OD & those 3 gears are the same ratio no matter where you have the shift lever (3 or OD)
I'm not saying I'm right.. those are only my thoughts...I'd also like to see a reply from someone who knows auto tranny's
