Had a great day Monday, ran a best of 11.96 at 117 with a 1.6 60'. I then started looking more closely at others ET/MPH. For example, I turned that time literally 20 minutes before 93 Ragtop ran his 11.96 at 113. I was reading REDGAR sig with 11.3 at 119 and 11.2 at 118.

What gives? If I can reach 117MPH, should I, with better driving perhaps, be running 11.3 / 11.4? It would be cool to have an ~ET in mind to shoot for before going any further with go fast stuff.

I'm not as hard core as I once was with drag racing. I have always liked MPH. It's a clear indicator of power. E.T. is merely traction and getting off the line quickly.

Your 117 mph speed could be linked to an e.t. as low as an 11.2. I've seen cars doing 11.2 11.3@117. Usually when you spin(worst e.t.) you'll get higher trap speed. Dead hooking reduces mph sometimes in some cases.

Either way, you've got one flying street car.

The difference between ET & MPH is Horsepower will get you MPH but you need a good chassis set up to get good ET.. Redgar has both..

As a very rough example look at my almost STOCK LT1.. I ran a best of 12.28 @ 110 mph... granted it was done under "ideal" conditions. The point being Edgar has short times in the 1.5x what are your 60' times.

My 60' was 1.65 & I am around 1.78 with less converter.. If I were to race you, I would be ahead of you well past 1/2 track... BECAUSE my car leaves the line better than yours.... however once we are hooked up your HORSEPOWER will come into play & you will catch me in the top end..

If you get a set of ET streets, or even Drag Radials your ET will drop a lot... but your MPH wont go up because better tires wont give you more HP..

..I just looked at yout "mods" I see you are a 6 speed..in "most" cases "NOT ALL" an automatic will leave the line better than a 6 speed... let us know your 60' times

I assume that you are running a stick shift transmission..
It's very normal to get a high mph/low ET with stick shift cars...
My best with my 5-speed '68 was 11.67@119.79mph
That kind of mph with an automatic would mean a ET in the very low 11's...

On those runs, the 60' times were 1.65 and 1.7 (I hit 117 with a 11.96 and a 12.06). However it was a cold track, we had to stop when snow flurries came through, and the track was sprayed only to the 60' mark. Without a line lock I was unable to properly heat the tires. I tried heel toe, I tried coming off the clutch and onto the brake but I never got it right. This was with 26x10x15 Hoosier drags at 13psi.

Interesting point GSC3, your numbers seem to show that you had traction 1.5 60' and ran 11.6 at 119, probably exactly what my ET/MPH would be at that level. It's a richmond 6spd w/3.07 gears, I was shifting to 4th a few hunred feet before the line, crossing WAY too low in the RPM range.

What you guys are saying makes real sense. It's safe to say that this driver and the car are not putting all of the motors power to the track THROUGHOUT the race.

It is doubtful the 'driver' has anything to do with the lack of ET-performance (unless you're GRINDIN' 'em instead of FINDIN' 'em...)

like he said above steve a stick car will mph more in the range of 2-4 mph more than a auto car will
when my car was a stick it ran 12.8 at 112 then i changed to a auto and went 12.4 at 108
perfect example you take any stick and it will mph higher than a auto but it wont et as consistently :cheers:

Hey man, thanks again for the chip. I don't know if you saw my other post, I gained .8sec with it!!! From 12.7 to 11.9 switching the chip, the runs within 10 minutes of each other.

That's a pretty big difference. I can make sense of all of it except why an auto would have lower et's. Oh well, the 6spd is WAY too much fun.....for now.

Dont worry about it for now, enjoy the 6 speed.. :) the reason an auto will 60' better is it "hits" the tires softer/easier thus less chance to spin.. with a 6 speed if you DUMP the clutch you'll spin, or if your RPM is too low you will bog..
With 6 M you have to let it out fast but let it slip just a tad.. its hard to explain .. Practice...& you WILL get better ETs Steve do you plan on ever coming to E Town ?

I by no means should be trying to give advise on this subject, but I will anyways. :D Watching your car take off, it seemed to bog a little off of the line. IMO for what it is worth, I believe that if you install a linelock,gears, and heat the tires a little, then leave at a higher RPM you will lower your times considerably. It was obvious that your car is making a lot more power then mine, I believe it is just that it is easier to drive a automatic, (but not as fun) and dont forget I had the line lock to heat the tires. One other thing to consider is I have a 4.09 gear and I believe you are running a 3.45? At any rate, your car was the most impressive car there to watch running. Here is a complete breakdown of my best timeslip that day so you can compare all of it to yours. 60ft. 1.665, 330 4.913, 1/8 7.637, mph 89.63, 1000 9.993, 1/4 11.963, mph 113.69

Never cared about MPH.............just wanted the most ET out of a current set-up. When you get 1.5x & 1.4X 60's.........thats about as good as it gets for ET.
As for power.......yeah what they all said :D
You also need to look at your 1/8 mile & other times..........spinning down the track any? You can't always feel it......... thats where the pit crew comes in for watching & video taping :cheers:

It's how you get the power to the ground. With stock heads and cam I ran a 11.62 @ 114. The 1.54 60' didn't hurt either. :cheers:

with a stick car you want to leave high enough to just squeek the tires to a little haze
if you bog at all you will run slower
