Re: Lets Hear About Your Stories And Races... (1971Stingray)
This story happend at the track while I was drag racing:
It was the last race of the night and I was up against an '80's Monte Carlo. I've only lost one race at the track thus far and wanted to keep it that way. Well it was time to head up to the staging area. The kid fired the Monte Carlo up and I knew it was gonna be a good race. The green light drops and the kid jumped me out of the hole pretty good. I hit 2nd gear and the tires came loose and had to get out of it and get back in it. By this time the kid had about 2 car lengths on me and I thought it was over. I smacked 3rd gear and shortly after I hit 3rd gear I noticed I was slowly realing him in. I slowly pulled even with him and was still in 3rd gear approaching the finish line. I had my nose of the car slightly ahead of his. I was taching 6500RPMs (where I usually shift at) approaching the finish line. I didn't want to push the clutch in and shift the car, possibly losing my momentum. I kept it in 3rd gear and ran it through the traps to 7000RPMs AND WON!
An inspection of the timeslip revealed that the Monte Carlo had lost from the start by cutting a red light (his was .482 mine was a .674). I had beaten the Monte Carlo by .0166 seconds!
I talked to the kid afterwards and it was a 355 small block, Dart Heads (2.02/1.60s), solid roller cam (with almost as much lift as my big block cam), TH350 transmission and big drag radials out back.
Definitely got my heart pumping!

Guys
This belongs under the no longer active section of "Kill Stories" I prefer not to hear "Rice Stories here" No flames intended... :( But I'm sure this wil be locked soon..
Take it to the track & let us know how my times you get to the final round.. NOW that is what I'd like to hear..
Good luck

I kind of miss the old "Kill stories" section. We need something like that.
I understand the form's position on "No street racing" and fully support it. How about a "Tall tails" section where the guys can post their kill stories. If they are tall tails, nobody really knows if their true or not, on the street or track.
JMHO.

It would only get locked if street racing stories made their way here.
SO far they haven't, so everything is cool.

Here's a good story starring me and our pal John Panuzzo(Red96Coupe)
The scene: Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, summer 2001.
It's SLP Customer Appreciation day. There were about 16 Corvettes and about 6,000 Camaro's and Firebirds. A handful of Impala's and pick ups and a few Grand Prix's.
Well me and Panuzzo make our way through the field. It's now the semi finals, so me and John get our plan together since we would like to race each other in the finals. So he's in front of me and the other two cars are in teh next lane. I tell him I will saty behind him to insure that we don't race each other till the finals. Plan works, we both win. Now it's the finals, John's a right lane person and I'm a left lane person. Perfect for us. So we line up, we're dialed almost a second apart. I cut a .567 light to John's .550 light, he catches me and I see his nose drop, so now I'm ahead just slightly so I let off and then John blips the throttle to take the win. He went .09 over his dial and I went .10 over my dial. Definitely a fun race, the master whips the apprentice, and I learn a valuable lesson.
