Official results from WCCC for final race of our first year!
WCCC RACE RESULTS FROM NOV. 3RD. AT LACR
As advertised, the weather was nice and cool so almost everyone came away with new personal bests for LACR. There was a slight breeze coming in from the east but this was about 5 mph, so not really a factor in the race. After making four passes apiece in the morning practice session, everybody was pretty much dialed in by the time we started eliminations at around 12:30.
We had some of the best and most exciting match-ups in the short history of our event! This event attracted the first nine-second car we have seen; a good number of C2’s and C3’s; and we also had another new event champion, meaning that we crowned five different winners at each of our events. No one person dominated all of the events.
In addition, there were lots of regulars in attendance as well as a host of new racers. Donna King and her hubby came up from San Diego and Paul Flores returned from Santa Clara. Good track conditions prevailed throughout the event so everybody was hooking up pretty well. Other than a momentary computer problem, this event went off without a hitch – although a few did break in their efforts to go for the gold!
Here are the official results from our fifth and final West Coast Corvette Challenge race for 2002:
Winner: Todd Drane
Runner-up: Gary Brown
Semi-Finalists: Steve Cool
Branko Sindicich
Low e.t.: Branko Sindicich (9.72)
Best Reaction Time: Dave Dowdell (.505)
Todd did a great job with his dials and with his reaction times. Todd was rock-steady (kinda like Redgar - you know, the "rock" part). Anyway, Todd and I met in the finals where he treed me and also won on a double-breakout! That was quite a race to end the season with! Again, big-time congrats to Beach!
As always, there are some very good people to thank for pitching in to make these events happen. In particular, I want to thank Alice Villeneuve and Debbie Cool for taking charge of our registration area. Their devotion to helping out has really freed us up to hang with the racers and, in particular, to offer assistance to the newer racers. I can’t thank Alice and Debbie enough, but I’ll keep trying! Mike Villeneuve also helped by providing the canopy for registration and Todd Drane shared his considerable racing expertise with our newest drivers after the driver’s meeting. Dave Dowdell was able to get in some more pictures for us AND he also went a couple of rounds today. Go DAVE! (He is also lusting after a new C5 – stay tuned for further developments.) :D
Finally, I want to thank Bernie Longjohn and his racing staff at Los Angeles County Raceway for providing us with a great venue to race at. The track was well-prepped and maintained despite a couple of oil down situations. These folks kept the track in excellent shape all day long. The weather, track conditions, and lack of SCEDA, Super Street, and imports, made for lots of passes in the morning session, and time enough for folks to get home at a reasonable hour after eliminations. We finally figured out how to schedule around the super-events!
Several of us met at Carrow’s to celebrate afterwards with a prime rib dinner – life is good!
All-in-all, those of us who had been racing this entire year, thought November 3rd. may very well have been our best race-day yet. I agree. :yesnod: :smash:   :yesnod:

Congratulations to you Gary Brown for getting the West Coast Corvette Challenge going.
I also thank those that help Gary with this. Getting one of these series going is a tremendous undertaking and he really needs your help. I find myself doing something for the Challenge almost EVERY DAY.
5 succesful events and 5 differnt winners is spectacular.

Thanks for all your effort,

Edgar and John - right back at ya! You two and many others from the Cartek Challenge provided us with your enthusiasm, guidance, encouragement, wisdom, and good-natured humor - ALL of which were needed to pull off the WCCC. :yesnod:
I will never be able to thank you enough, but I will continue to try. I am fully dedicated to passing on the knowledge to our ever-growing list of friends who are also putting on the Challenges around the country. The birth and growth of this series starts with our big brothers on the East Coast. Drag racing was born here but, I do believe, has been perfected by all of you.
May we continue to grow until that fine day when all of us amass at Topeka (wherever) for the first-ever National Corvette Challenge Championships! This is John's dream and I am totally on-board with this idea. to all of our fellow Challengers!
