section 10:3 of the NHRA rule book states:
"Where mandated by class requirements, arm restraints must be worn and adjusted in such a manner that driver's hands and/or arms cannot be extended outside of rool cage and/or frame rails."

I would say above the elbow.

We have a guy that I see at the track here from time to time...owns a team, both hands are gone......did NOT have arm restraints on in a bad crash!! We wear them in the dragster...have to per regs NHRA or IHRA. In a vert I would say it is a good idea. We wear them around the wrist and adjust them so if you raise your hands up it prevents them from going above the head.

FWIW: I was watching the girl who drove the jet funny car (low 5s, 300mph) at The Rock this weekend (VERY nice, very fan friendly). She would adjust the restraints a little then see how far her arms and hands would go, making sure she could reach anything she needed to. She kept tightening them till she could do what she needed to do in an emergency and that's all.
O yea, seems like they were attached to her suit by snaps and d rings in the elbow area, maybe a little toward the wrists.
Harold

They go on your forearm, between your wrist and elbow. :yesnod:
