Default Bracket racing

Having never been to a drag strip, what is bracket racing and how does it work. I think I want to go and race my vette down in Savannah in the future but I don't want to show up looking like a complete FNG.

Its a contest of driver skill, takes the cars out of the equation.

Say your car runs 13.00 alllll day long. You "dial" a 13.00 for your time. Your opponent runs 11.00 allll day long so he dials a 11.00. You leave the line 2 full seconds before he does. He has to try and catch you and beat you to the finish line before you get there without giong faster than 11.00 or else he "breaks out". You basically are racing yourself and trying to run your number.
