Default OPTIMA BATTERY as a replacement???

My current battery needs to be replaced on my '94 Corvette Coupe. I have been looking at either a Red or Yellow Top Optima Battery as my replacement choice. The Yellow Top has more reserve and is slightly more money. The Optima brand seems attractive as it has the ability to hold a charge for a longer time periods and my Vette does sit for longer periods of time since all I do is race it. If anyone has experience using the Optima battery or another brand to suggest I would be interested in your opinion. Thanks

You will find folks on both sides of optima. My car had a red for a long time but I have a yellow now. Car gets started 7-14 days apart for race weekends. No issues.

I'm on year 7 for the optima yellow top. The car is a DD at times & also will sometimes sit for weeks at a time depending on my other driver. Florida weather is very hard on batteries and if you get 4 years on a regular battery thats about the norm. I will get either a red top or yellow top to replace mine when the time comes. I think the red tops are lighter.

Default Optima

We have had a red for 5 to 6 years in P98, same on and off uses as the other racers have commented. Needed a battery for my 94 Jeep Wrangler so I took the red out of P98 and it now lives in the Jeep. I replaced it with a yellow. Never had any issues.

Bill when I had Leo put the solid rear in the car and that was when I still lived in Jersey and that 7 years now, I had him put in a red top in the back behind the rear. I don't have an alternator on the car and I have never had a problem. I think what helps start the car is I have a MDS starter and a 20 deg start retard in the MSD Digital 7 BOX.. My car with 15 to 1 compression starts like a 6 cylinder.

I've had really good luck with the NAPA battery. Did the sears gold, optima red and yellow. I even had a cheepo k-mart which lasted almost 6 months lol.

I also have NAPA battery's in the MGB, scooter and wave runner. These like the race car sit over the winter.

I got a Yellow Top 2 years ago.. my OEM was fine, but I would run the fan between rounds to get the engine temp to app. 150 deg. On the days I was "Lucky" and went a few rounds (6 or more) total runs including the 2 TT I would run the fan for app 10 min. between runs.. & it never gave me any problems.

I still drive the car now (winter) on nice days, sometimes it sits for 2-3 weeks... but I put a Battery Tender on it...

Its fine so far, & I would get another "Yellow" top again.. It has more storage than the RED... the RED might have more "Cranking" power but you really don't need it as it not 30 deg at the track.. what you need is a "Deep Cycle" (Yellow Top) you wont be sorry... Yes it costs a little more, and is a few Lb. heavier, but so far it's been well worth it to me!!

I have had nothing but problems with optima batteries. I went thru 3 in 2 years. I have also had friends that have had problems with them.

I would never buy another optima battery again. And they are twice the money of a real battery!

They are junk.Who needs a battery you have to put on charge if the car sits more then 3 days.Sometimes my Red Top wouldn't even make it that long.Go to Costco.Best warrentie in the business and they just plain work.

Everstart Maxx sold by Walmart. You guys may laugh but it is one of the highest rated batteries on the market. Even though it is not a gel cell design it is still an outstanding battery.

Every vehicle I own has one in it.

So do you buy a battery like every 3 months?

Thanks for all the recommendations and feedback, I think I'm going with either the NAPA or Interstate - ratings are very good on either and the price is about the same. Thanks again

Artie, did you know that when the city of Union looses it power it has Bob put all his batteries in series and he powers up the town.
