Why are there so many entries in final NHRA race

This seems odd to me that each of the four pro classes has over 20 entries when most of the year they sturggled to get 16 even going with 15 for several races this season in the Top Fuel.

Is it the local? Are that that many more team based in CA? Is it the weather and easterners are happy to get out of here? Is it 2010 cars debuting/testing? Is it funding for so few races that the finale is a chosen as it is a bigger stage with championships on the line?

It's Pomona and the final race of the year. Compare the entrants with Indy this year.
