And The 10/30/09 PBIR/MOROSO Corvette Challenge Winner is......
RICK MORTELL!
The current reigning 2008 PBIR (SE Fla.) CORVETTE CHALLENGE SERIES CHAMP in his '96 C4 Collector Edition.
Rick's .02 over dial was enough to hold off Dino's Top End charge to the stripe!
Dino had to scrub off 9 mph on the brakes, and still went .02 under his dial with a 11.38 in his '92 C3.
Rick Mortell is a fantastic racer, and even made it to the "Gamblers Race" final against fellow GM participant and great bracket racer Doug Parlimento, in a race that some of the Challenge participants were able to put together with the great help from the track gent "Mailman-Ed Quinlan".
But Dino Ramirez did take me out in the GM final with his other car. Easy win for him...lol, as I had hurt my rear in the semifinal, and just drove it thru. Dino is a legend for sure here at PBIR, and on Long Island N.Y. back when they had all 3 Dragstrips in service!
I hoped for Dino's Redlight to come on since I had to chase his '98 Z28 down, but that did not happen.
(After my semifinal run with the "wheel hop" I first heard the noise on the 1/4 turnoff. I've now got a Hard Clunking on turns, but aside from that it drove home fine 60 miles on the highway.)
Call me sissy, but I just didn't want to chance launching my street driver on that last run, and risk having it brought back to the house 60 miles on a hook after midnight!
Spyder Gears? Differential? we'll look see this week.
Again Congrats to Rick Mortell on his PBIR CORVETTE CHALLENGE WIN.....again!
p.s. We missed you last night Joe G. - ("Honorary Mayor of the CORVETTE CHALLENGE")

Thanks for the well wishes Dan & Charlie B......yea, t'was the "Torsen" type that had some small chips.
All else looks fine, and a new "non Torsen" type on it's way.
C'ya soon!
.....Hopefully on a prepped/maintained launchpad, as I wasn't the only hook plagued racer there.
IHRA can't get to PBIR soon enough for me. Could it be worse?
Richie G- we missed you guys too - but my new trans is feeling great, Mike at Horsepower Sales did a great job on it, so I'll be there in December! Stevo should have his car from the body shop next week so he should be in good shape too.
So Rick M.....be ready, I'm gunning for you again!
I wonder if the new track manager from Memphis will be there...he's not our beloved Mike Clark but hey, coming from the Midwest like me I expect he'll be a good guy!
